apt-get's journal

An old professor (modeled on one of my high school teachers) invents a time-travelling machine. Every time it is used, however, the person incurs "mental trauma", later turning into some form of corruption: it was only possible to use it about four times before one loses their humanity and becomes an eldritch abomination. Saddened by the death of their son, the professor uses it over and over, with increasing consequences on every run.

As I travel to the future in order to escape this mess, I land in a world is taken over by a massive zombie/vampire apocalypse: my only hope of survival is in reaching the top of a secluded mountain, blasting my way through various environments with knives, guns, and holy water: forests, beaches, highways, small towns. The setting is similar to a dream I had before, where I was travelling around this area with my dad.

I discover at some point that the professor, now a Dio look-alike with godlike time-shifting powers, is fooling around with me by letting me survive and placing enemies in my path. A short part of the dream involved me getting into training spars with his subordinates after getting mind-controlled, but this particular point didn't have much influence in the latter parts of the dream. After I escape, a crisis hits me as to whether I should leave my existence up to the whims of some villain figure constantly lurking in the shadows, or just end my own life to escape it all.

I finally meet my demise after running out of ammo, surrounded in a crumbling casino by a horde of deformed orc-like figures. Luckily, I got to wake up before seeing myself eaten to shreds.

I suppose this technically counts as a nightmare, but it was honestly pretty cool.
