apt-get's journal

I'm a US soldier freshly deposited in Iraq. I'm being given a tour of the Green Zone of Baghdad: relatively modern buildings, clean all-around, working subway. We see internet cafes and department stores on our way to the base. At some point, one of the branches on our side shows the delimitation of the green zone: a green ribbon closing off the passage, with obliterated buildings and dust in the distance. Once we're at the base, I'm ordered for my first mission to get at the "checkpoint", in order to help some elderly people redo an election that was found to be rigged. After asking for the instructions, I found the right place, and rang the bell. A woman in a transparent top looked in through the window and went back; shortly after, a guy looking like Colress from Pokemon B&W2 opened the door, gave me a death stare, and asked why I was here. I started to explain that it was for the mission before the woman came back and pulled me in.

The next scene was in their (futuristic-looking) basement: the woman was laying in a corner with a friend of hers, showing her something on my phone, while the guy forced me to play a shooter game with him on a giant screen. I just wanted to get out of there and kept my character lazily in the corner so I wouldn't get shot, but this strategy wouldn't last in the last level, when the other player got KOed. I then had to fight some kind of hydra boss monster, which I just barely managed to do.

- "Sheesh, so you'd go this far to enable your lie..."
- "what lie?"
- "That vinegar is a liquid, obviously." (Somehow, this made sense at that point.)

I retorted that vinegar is a solvent, and not to be so pedant. Right as he was beginning to mutter a response, the woman stood up, looked at him straight in the eyes, and told him to get out of her house, which is when I learned his name is Air. My next mission was then to escort him to the "South of the Island", a task rendered more difficult as apparently, swarms of bugs were roaming the area. I woke up right after that.

This was quite surreal.
