apt-get's journal

I was streaming some kind of esoteric 3D mario game for a bunch of people in an IRC channel. They had never managed to complete the game, so they asked me to try it out. I had never played it before, but I seemed to be quite comfortable with the controls. One of the levels was called "Dark cos(pi) land", and had two separate sections: one was a bit parkour-like (with lots of walljumps and such), but had no enemies.

If you ever fell through the ground at some point, you'd end up in a section called the 'lunatic world'. Music was playing in reverse and the colors were somewhat distorted. Enemies that looked like the Flammingle from Megaman X and another type I can't quite remember would chase you down relentlessly until you got back to the start and jumped up to the former section, which they couldn't access because they were unable to jump. I remember arguing at some point with someone because I wanted to use one of their HP-restoring items (I was low on health) and was told to wait until I was in worse shape.

Once that level was finished, the last one ended up being more of a cinematic than anything else, featuring my character walking in slow-motion through a minimarket with the staff and other customers narrating a story as I walked by. I don't remember it, but not in the sense that I forgot it after waking up: it's like the story didn't even matter inside the dream.

After completing the game, I chatted a bit with the others, who found the ending sequence somewhat underwhelming. I woke up soon after that.
