apt-get's journal

I had two separate but nice dreams today.

---

I was driving on a highway at night under the rain. There were a lot of hard turns and other difficult passages, and having only acquired my license recently, I was very distressed about the whole ordeal.

After that, a lengthy sequence of events related to a post-apocalyptic adventure featuring some of my relatives unfolded itself. My memory of this part is somewhat hazy, as I distinctly remember myself going semi-lucid at the beginning of it and thinking something along the lines of "Ah, this is really just a convoluted divorce metaphor". It was full of boring details about my early teens, and I wasn't interested much in the more fantasy elements of it all in the end. I wonder if I influenced the dream in this direction without realizing it or if that's what it was going to be about from the beginning, though...

The dream ended with me and my dad repairing his old SUV before embarking on a road trip. The happiness I felt as we were driving through foreign landscapes while bossa nova was playing on the car radio easily outweighed every gloomy aspect of the dream.

---

I was camping in Russia with other people from all nationalities, celebrating the South Korean victory in the World Cup. Gathered around some ice cream, we cracked a few jokes and campfire stories before moving to more serious and philosophical discussions, although still in a jovial manner. I think one of them was centered around cultural rites, and their transmission (or eventual disappearance) to the younger generations.

We were interrupted at some point, since dinner was ready, and everyone flocked around the barbecue grills where all kinds of meat were busy being seared, and I woke up a few moments after having my first bite.

I wouldn't say I lack social contact, but waking up after such carefree moments of camaraderie and happiness during a get-together does leave kind of a bitter-sweet feeling.
